Ripping Spotify music on MAC OX

(Spotify ripper for Windows) Ripping music from Spotify on Mac OSX is pretty easy. In order to get Spotify music off you will need a program called Audio Hijack Pro. It won’t do the naming or splitting for you but will give you nice clean rips in good quality. Audio Hijack Pro costs $30 but can be used for free but the free version is limited to 10 minutes of ripping. So if you just want to record a few songs at a time the free version will be fine.

Step by step guide for ripping Spotify music on Mac

Step 1 Create new profile
After you installed trial version of Audio Hijack Pro. Start Audio Hijack and click the "+" sign in the bottom left hand corner. This will load up the screen that allows you to create a new profile.

Step 2 Set up

Now start Spotify. Go back to your new profile in Audio Hijack pro and go the the "Input" tab. Press "Select" and then choose "Spotify".

Step 3

Now press "Hijack". This plugs Hijack Audio Pro directly into Spotify which allows it to record music straight from it. This may cause Hijack Audio Pro to ask you restart Spotify. Press "Quit and restart" and Audio Hijack Pro will restart Spotify.

Step 4 Start Recording

Now press "Record". Then switch back to Spotify and start the playback of the song or playlist you want to rip. If you are ripping several tracks in a row you need to press "Split" in Audio Hijack Pro at the end of each song for a new recording to begin. This way you get a separate file for every track. If you prefer to split the tracks later you need to use a separate audio editor like Audacity to split and name the tracks. I will tell you how to do this in a minute.

Step 5

That’s the recording part complete. You can find the tracks you have ripped in the "Recording Bin" in Audio Hijack Pro or in the directory " /Music/Audio Hijack Pro/ ". You files will be named "Spoify+Date Ripped". You can rename them by using the finder to find the folder and renaming it there.

Step 6 Spliting recorded music

There is an another program called "Audacity" in case you didn’t use Audio Hijack´s integrated splitting function.

Step 7

Adding markers in Audacity so that Audacity knows where the start of each song is and how it should be named. Add a marker att the beginning of each song by pressing "Apple(.)+B" where the song starts. If you press a marker you can name it. The name of the marker will then be the name of the track on your computer. Redo this step all the way through the file.

Step 8

Now go to “File/Export Mutiple/”. Change the export format to WAV. If you want to save directly to mp3 you need to download and install the free lame mp3 codec. Otherwise you can just save them as WAV files and then convert them to mp3 with a standalone application. If you want, you can change were the files are placed by changing the "Export Location". I got mine set to "Music\".

Step 9

Now press "Export". This may take a minute to finish.

Step 10

That it! You can now find your ripped music in the folder you specified when exporting the tracks.
